Hazleton UNICO will again hold its annual Italian Fingers or “Morra” Tournament at this year’s 12th annual Bell’Italia Festival on Sept. 15. Attorney Chris Slusser and the Slusser Law Firm will once again sponsor the tournament.
The Hazleton UNICO festival will be held Friday through Sunday at Hazle Twp. Community Park. Everyone is welcome for three days filled with food, fun and entertainment.
Each player simultaneously reveals their hand, extending any number of fingers and calls out a number. Any player who successfully guesses the total number of fingers revealed by all players combined scores a point.
While there are many variations of Morra, most forms can be played with a minimum of two players.
In the most popular version, all players throw out a single hand, each showing zero to five fingers and call out loud their guess at what the sum of all fingers shown will be. If one player guesses the sum, that player earns one point. The first player to reach 10 points wins the game.
This year’s tournament will be double elimination with a $30 entry fee per team.
The tournament is limited to 16 two-man teams with the option of a third player alternate.
Cash Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Anyone interested in playing could register either day of the festival, Sept. 14 or 15, at the UNICO tent, or by calling Mike DeCosmo, UNICO vice president, at 570-401-2693.
